Douglas R. Childers, 70, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Charleston Area Medical Center, in Charleston, WV. He was born August 7, 1946, in Charleston, a son of the late Raymond Walter Childers and Macil F. (Stanley) Childers. Doug was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired from Campbell Towing Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Justin Douglas Childers. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joycelyn Joan (Pearson) Childers of Point Pleasant; daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Robert C. Henderson of Culloden, WV; and one son, Glen "Andy" Childers of Huntington; and three grandchildren, Morgan Henderson, Marlee Henderson and Gage Childers. Doug is also survived by sisters and brothers, Shirley McGraw of South Vienna, OH, Jack (Margaret) Childers of Vancouver, WA, Beverly (Herman) Hundley of Oak Hill, WV, Anita (Michael) Kemlock of Oak Hill, WV and Dale (Pam) Childers of Pounding Mill, VA. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Henderson Church of Christ in Henderson, with Minister Bill Deem officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Military graveside services will be given by the Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post 23 of Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. till service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Henderson Church of Christ Community Food Program.
