Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Thornton, 47, of Gallipolis Ferry, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was a christian and homemaker. Dottie was born September 26, 1961 in Fort Myers, Florida to the late Harvey Davidson Thevenin and Deloris Jean (Bird) Thevenin Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harley Ward; maternal grandfather, Ernest Bird; maternal grandmother, Virginia Ward; paternal grandparents, Evert and Elmi Thevenin; a uncle, Eddie Bird; and one brother, Billy Thevenin. Surviving are her companion, Dale Rose of Gallipolis Ferry; two daughters, Jean Ann Thornton and fiance Rick Patterson of Point Pleasant, and Amy Dawn Thornton and companion Dewayne Patterson of Point Pleasant; two sons, George Abraham Thornton and fiancee Tonya Kirby of Henderson, and Jason (Angela) Rose of Unicoi, TN; sisters, Brenda Johnson and fiance Jimbo Young of West Columbia, Pat Thornton of Gallipolis, Linda Spillman of Gallipolis, and Sam Rose of Gallipolis; brothers, Bruce (Brenda) Chapman of Nitro, Robert (Pat) Weekley of Blanchard, OK, Ralph (Tammy) Young of West Columbia, James (Gayle) Thornton of Gallipolis, and Joe Johnson of Hurricane; maternal step grandmother, Wilma Bird of Hurricane; and special friend, Tammy Reitmire of West Columbia. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kenneth Dillard and Airon Dillard of Charleston, Brianna Thornton, Richard Patterson, Jr., Jacob Patterson and Sissy Patterson of Gallipolis Ferry; William Rose and Edward Rose of Unicoi, TN; Roshelle Sparks of Gallipolis; and Tommy Broyles, Tyler Broyles, John Kirby Jr. and Bobby Kirby II of Henderson; two great grandchildren, Michael Irelan and Lydia Irelan of Gallipolis, and many other special family and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 23 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Pastor Bert Flora officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson Cemetery in Henderson.
