Donald M. "Donnie" Vanmatre

Donald M. "Donnie" VanMatre, 82, of Sandhill Road, formerly of Grandview Heights, Point Pleasant, WV passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022. He was born January 17, 1940, in West Columbia, WV, a son of the late David VanMatre and Leah (Grinstead) VanMatre. Donnie was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Wahama High School Class of 1958 and retired as an Ironworker with Local #787. Donnie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling around the country where many lasting friendships were made. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Kay VanMatre ;a brother, Eddie Thomas VanMatre;sister, Mona Lee Werner; and a sister-in-law, Cecile VanMatre. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Twila Jean (Hutchison) VanMatre of Point Pleasant; daughters, Valerie (Shaun) Wilson and Edina (Ken) Hanes of Colorado Springs, CO; three stepchildren, Benton (Brenda) Hall of Sierra Vista, AZ, Karen (Robert) Plants of Point Pleasant and Timothy (Teresa) Hall of Edgewater, FL; three grandchildren, Shea Russell, Greer Hanes and Macy Hanes; seven step grandchildren, Cailyn Hall, Ashlee Plants, Robert Plants III, Keely Leever, Angela Christoph, Haley Elliott and Morgan Pierce; a brother, Paul David "Duck" VanMatre of Letart, WV; sister-in-law, Connie Kay VanMatre of Mason, WV; and was loved by many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Grace Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Jonathan Pinson officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
