Della Louease Sayre

Della Louease (Stone) Sayre, 84 of Letart, WV, passed away at Cabell Huntington Hospital on December 6, 2024, in Huntington, WV, surrounded by her family.

Louease was born on May 5, 1940 in Leon, WV, to Jay and Isabel (Welling) Stone.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 54 years, Thomas Lewis Sayre whom she married on June 27, 1964.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Gary Lee Sayre, brothers Jay Dwight Stone and James Edison Stone (infant), and her infant grandson, Matthew David Sayre.

Louease was passionate about her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family.  In addition, she was a devoted teacher of the youth of Mason County for approximately 43 years, beginning at the age of 19 at Warner School, a one room schoolhouse in the Leon area, and ending with her time at New Haven Elementary. Louease was also known for her many hours spent gardening in the summertime and her love of fishing.

Louease is survived by her son, Michael Thomas (Jennifer) Sayre of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter, Carla Renee Sayre of Letart, WV; grandchildren, Carl Thomas Sayre, Jay Michael Sayre, Evan Robert Grady, Elijah Nicholas Grady, and Hannah Renee Sayre. Two brothers, Elmer Stone of Leon, WV and Roger Stone of Letart also survive her along with several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Mason, WV, with Pastor Joe Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Letart.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2024 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
