David Kelson "Cheyenne" Simpson Sr., 79, of Point Pleasant, departed this life, Saturday, August 29, 2015. He was born February 23, 1936, in his beloved hometown of Rainelle, WV, a son of the late Emory Calvin Simpson and Elizabeth (Robinson) Simpson. Cheyenne served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was Commander of American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant for many years. During his time as legion commander he met and spent time with many patrons and families that he cherished and loved. He was a proud veteran and maintained a deep respect for the American flag and all it stands for. He spent his career of 27 years working at Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Kelson Simpson Jr.; four sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Lee (Nibert) Simpson of Point Pleasant; daughter Tammy Simpson Gray (Jim) of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Erica Gray, Kelson Gray and Bretton Gray of Nashville; and one brother, Edwin Simpson of Arlington, VA. He will be missed by family and friends. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Dr. Richard Sargent officiating. Burial will follow at Austin-Hope-McLeod Cemetery in Gallipolis Ferry where military graveside rites will be given by the Marine Corps Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.
