Charles A. "Charlie" Newell

Charles A. "Charlie" Newell, 79, of Southside, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at thePleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Point Pleasant. He was born September 2, 1942, in Gallipolis Ferry, a son of the late William Lester Newell and Nellie Mae (Higginbotham) Newell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Price; and brothers, Denver Newell and Bill Newell. Charlie was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Southside.He was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School Class of 1960, served his country in the United States Army and retired from Shell Chemical as a production operator. He was also a member of the Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926 of Mason, WV. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma Ann (Jeffers) Newell of Southside; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Kenneth Blessing of Leon; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Leonis Newell of Gallipolis, OH; and three grandchildren, Zach Newell, Sophia Newell and Conner Blessing. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor David Radcliff officiating.Burial will follow at the Beech Hill Cemetery in Southside.Military graveside honors will be given by the Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926 and the West Virginia Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
