Cecil Charles Sargent, 88, of Leon, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019, at home. He was born April 9, 1930, in Gassaway, WV, a son of the late Glen H. Sargent and Velma (Underwood) Sargent. Cecil was a Christian who loved bluegrass and gospel music. He played the guitar and sang with his family group the Sargent Family and the River Junction Bluegrass Band. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and retired as a telegraph operator with 32 1/2 years service with Chessie System, Inc. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry work and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Murphy; two brothers, Paul and Herbert Sargent; and a granddaughter, Heather Nicole Smith. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis V. (Holland) Sargent of Leon; daughters, Dezra (Rick) Pearson of Mason, Myra Shull of Leon and Vickie (Charlie) Smith of Leon; two sons, Keith (Joan) Sargent of Point Pleasant and Kevin (Jeanne) Sargent of Point Pleasant; sister, Emaline (John) Teeuwissen of St. Albans, WV; brother, Ron (Vicki) Sargent of Commerce City, CO; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public services. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
