Carroll Eugene Bates

Carroll Eugene "Twig" Bates Sr., 68, of Point Pleasant, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, at home. He was born July 23, 1952, in Henderson, a son of the late Frank E. Bates and Oritha I. (Gillispie) Bates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his baby sister, Nancy; brother, John; mother-in-law, Mandy Burns; brother-in-law, Danny Burns; sister-in-law, Reatha McVey; and brother-in-law, Mike Leport. "Twig" was a towboater, truck driver, milk hauler and long term driver for Myers Paving Inc. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Bates; son, Carroll "Little Twig" Bates Jr. and Shawn Riley; brothers, Raymond Bates, Frankie Bates, Dale (Maggie) Bates; sister, Pam (Cricket) Lee; and sister-in-law, Penny Leport.He is also survived by grandchildren, Nicole Day (Charles Kormink), Steven Young, Kaden and Whitney Mentz; special "adopted daughter" Courtney and Auston Gravely; and Lorie and Critter Gravely, Robie Smith and many other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Bert Flora officiating.The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Friday, at the funeral home.Social distancing will be observed and face masks are required.
