Betty N . Capehart

August 31, 1931 — March 23, 2017

Mrs. Betty N. (Shinn) Capehart, 85, of New Haven, went to be with her Lord Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was born August 31, 1931, in Leon, WV, the eleventh of twelve children of the late Glenna Lee Shinn and Audrey Belle (Jividen) Shinn. Betty attended Leon Elementary School and graduated from Point Pleasant High School Class of 1949. She trusted Christ as her Savior at a revival at Shiloh Church on Leon Baden Road, as a teenager. She was married to Rev. Lloyd H. (Herb) Capehart for 60 years. They had four children. Throughout her life, Betty worked as a secretary at Ravenswood Aluminum, Citizens National Bank, Union Carbide and American Electric Power. She was a devoted pastor's wife, having taught Sunday School, Bible School and was involved in the Ladies Missionary Society. Additionally, she enjoyed playing the organ for Sunday services and singing in the choir. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mason, WV. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Some of the family's favorite memories are those of being gathered around the family dinner table on Sunday afternoon, enjoying one of her delicious home-cooked meals. One of "Maw Maw's" greatest joys was playing with and helping take care of the grandbabies. Her family adored her, and are looking forward to the day when they will be reunited in Heaven. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Capehart, daughter, Debbie Capehart Ray, son, Kevin Capehart, and siblings, Paul Shinn, Clare Shinn, Herman Shinn, Donald Shinn, Byron Dayton Shinn, James Keith Shinn, Lowell Carroll Shinn, Claudia Prunty, Faye Smith, Bernice Graham, and Reba Smith. Betty is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette and Joe Johnson of New Haven and Kelley and Mark Bell of Leon; grandchildren, Cheryl (Rev. Adam) Burge of Winona, MN, Dr. Matthew (Kelly) Ray of Menomonie, WI, Scott Johnson of New Haven, Aaron Bell of Lynchburg, VA, and Christopher Bell of Cedarville, OH; and great-grandchildren, Audrey, Caleb and Abby Burge of Winona, MN, and Luke and Seth Ray of Menomonie, WI. She is also survived by former son-in-law, Alan Ray of Roachdale, IN; sisters-in-law, Dolly Shinn of Point Pleasant, Frankie Shinn of Charleston, Patsy Shinn of Point Pleasant and Mary Capehart of Moundsville; and brother-in-law, Leonard Smith of Leon. A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Mason, WV, with Rev. Mark Bell and Rev. Rob Grady officiating. Burial will follow at the Leon Cemetery in Leon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
