Sunday morning April 23, 2006 God called home a loving mother, Bernice Artist (Miller) Green, 87, of Fraziers Bottom, WV. She was born September 4, 1918, in Upland, WV to the late John Freemont and Una (Lewis) Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Fred Johnson Green; and one sister; Artie Forbush. Bernice was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Upland, WV and continued with her love and prayers for the church while living the last five years at the Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She spent her life as an exceptional homemaker while helping in the operation of the Green Valley Poultry and Cattle Farm. Her most treasured gifts were her five children who thought of her as a compassionate, caring, gentle, soft spoken, loving mother who always put her family first. Her family and friends who had the opportunity to be part of Bernice's life will cherish many wonderful memories. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Virginia and Warren Cornell of Dunbar, WV, and Betty and Pat Smith of Huntington, WV, three sons and daughters-in-law; James and Carolyn Green of Fraziers Bottom, WV, Freddie and Tina Green of Fraziers Bottom, WV and Richard and Alesia Green of Point Pleasant, WV, a sister and brother-in-law; Irene and Franklin Riddle of Fraziers Bottom, WV, eight grandchildren; Beth Nunley, Lisa Pitchford, Kevin Cornell, Amy Hughes, Jonathan Smith, David Smith, Jered Green and Tyler Green; twelve great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Upland, WV, with the Rev. Charles Moses and Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, WV and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Bernice's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o James Green, 545 Mason Road, Fraziers Bottom, WV 25082.
