Archie R. Henry, 92, of Gallipolis Ferry, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Pleasant Valley Hospital, in Point Pleasant. He was born May 15, 1924, in Gallipolis Ferry, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Henry and Sadie Belle (Hatfield) Henry. Archie was a member of Jordan Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Merchant Marine and the United States Coast Guard. He was former mayor of Henderson and owner of Leona's Diner and trailer park of Henderson and worked construction. He was first mate on the showboat, The Rhododendron and enjoyed writing short stories, poetry and composing music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland Henry and Major Henry; two sisters, Norma Fowler and Phyllis Beckner. He is survived by one son, Brian and one daughter, Cheryl Ann; two sisters, Helen Null of Gallipolis Ferry and Eleanor Jarrett of Maderira Beach, FL; one brother, Coleman Pat Henry (Susan) of St. Petersburg, FL and several nieces and nephews A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Charles Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow at Jordan Cemetery in Gallipolis Ferry. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the Jordan Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the burial.
