Amanda Elizabeth "Nookie" Lanier

Amanda Elizabeth "Nookie" Lanier, 89, of Southside, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 27, 1921, in Southside, WV, a daughter of the late Robert E. Lee Fadeley and Sarah Jane (Call) Fadeley. Her nickname of "Nookie" was given to her with love by her grandfather. Nookie faithfully attended the Beech Hill United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was the director of many christian plays at church and the Beech Hill Community Center. She also was an avid Quilter and loved to sew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lanier; one brother, Arlee Fadeley; three sisters, Pluma Lore, Ruby McCarty, and Betty Wears; and a granddaugther, Angel Marie Rice. Nookie is survived by three daughters, Judy (George) McCoy of Ladson, S.C., Janice (Marcus) Rice of Southside, and Julia (Stephen) Thompson of Delaware, Ohio; two sons, Jimmy Lanier of Southside and Jerry Lanier of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Ernie McCoy, Stephen McCoy, Brian Rice, Robin Rice, Emily Thompson, Olivia Thompson, and Nan and Aaron Williamson who were adopted by love; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Beech Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant and one hour prior to the service at the church.
