Adam Fay Wilson, 99, of Point Pleasant, WV, died on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Salisbury, Maryland. He is widower of Nelma "Johnnie" Wilson, his wife of 66 years. His survivors include three sons, seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. His children and spouses are Roger and Janet (deceased) Wilson of Richmond, VA, Richard and Patricia Wilson of Bloomington, IL, Stephen and Patricia Wilson of Salisbury, MD. The grandchildren and spouses include Charmaine and Michael Gore, Kathy and Tim Bowers, Elizabeth and Douglas Winegardner, Adam and Quyen Wilson, Rachel and Corey Wilson, Marissa and Jeremy Lock and Jared and Lauren Wilson. Great-grandchilden are Chelcy and Tyler Bowers, Elaine Gore, Ryan and Finn Winegardner, Jack, Hank, and Olive Wilson, Andrew, Cole, and Carter Wilson, Wilson and Henry Lock and Addyson and Aliese Wilson. Mr. Wilson was born June 2, 1915 at Daybrook, Monongalia County, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Adam W. and Guilla Mason Wilson. Also preceding him in death was an infant brother, Gerald B. Wilson; his brother, Fred and wife Dorothy Wilson of CT; and his sister, Helen and husband Ken Chisler of WV. He was a resident of Point Pleasant from 1938-2003. He graduated from Daybrook High School in 1934 and from West Virginia University in 1937 with a BS degree in Agriculture Education. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the US Army after serving 4 years in ROTC. As Cadet Captain & Company Commander at the University, he had the privilege of having a sponsor to march with his company. He chose Nelma Madeline Wilson of Nutter Fort, WV who became his beloved wife. While at WVU he also was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Alpha Zeta Agriculture Honorary as well as the "scabbard & blade" and Rowans Rifles - both ROTC honorary. After graduation in 1937, he was employed by the WVU Argiculture Extension Service and was assigned to Marshall County as Assistant County Agent. He became County Agent in Mason County in 1938 serving until February 1942 when he was called to active duty for WWII and trained at Ft. Benning, GA, Camp Pickett, VA, Ft. Jackson, SC, Camp Polk, LA, Camp Hyde, AZ, and Indiantown Gap, PA. He served 4 years of Active Duty as a rifle company commander with the 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre, engaging in combat on Guam, Leyte, and Okinawa. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Soon after returning to Mason County in 1945, he became a partner with D.W. Rothgeb in the Rich Valley Dairy. He eventually became owner of Rich Valley Ice Cream. He retired in 1980. Mr. Wilson has been a member of the Main Street Baptist Church since 1938. He has served the church in leadership positions, including Board of Deacons, Board of Christian Education, Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, and BYF Leader. He was a member of the Point Pleasant Rotary Club and served as President and Treasurer. He was active in Scouting and served as District Chairman of the MGM District as well as Vice President and Director of the Tri State Area Council. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his adult leadership. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, with Dr. Richard L. Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens, in Point Pleasant, where military graveside services will be conducted by the WV Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant and one hour prior to service at the church Saturday. Mr. Wilson requested that any memorial gifts be made to the Wilson Youth Scholarship Fund of the Main Street Baptist Church, 1100 Main Street, Point Pleasant, WV 25550 or the Adam F. and Nelma M. Wilson Scholarship Fund at West Virginia University, WVU Foundation, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown, WV 26506-6410, (preference given to students from Harrison, Monongalia, and Mason Counties).
